The 12th annual Marda Loop Justice Film Festival will feature socially conscious film screenings in three Calgary venues over six days in November. It includes feature and short films, with titles coming from countries around the world, and topics ranging from human rights and social justice to environmental issues.

The mandate of a film festival is usually very simple: present the best films available to a varied audience. But the annual Marda Loop Festival is more than just film. Screenings includes post-show discussions with local and international artists and experts, and opportunities to interact and connect with community, no matter how you define it.

The Marda Loop Justice Film Festival has been sharing human rights, environmental, and socially significant documentary films since 2006.

ABOUT MLJFF

At the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival, we present some of the world’s best documentaries on the issues that are important to us as individuals, Canadians, global citizens, and humans. We’ve brought these influential documentaries from international filmmakers to more than 25,000 people in the Calgary area and across Canada, and thanks to our sponsors, we’ve done it free of charge.

Since our start in 2006, we’ve grown 100%, from a three-day festival with two venues to a six-day festival in four venues. In addition to the annual festival, we also present justREEL, a year-round film series.

In 2015, the documentaries we presented were chosen from a submission pool of more than 900 filmmakers from 91 countries. Every screening, whether it’s a festival presentation or part of justREEL, includes a discussion with the filmmaker or experts on the film’s topic; these conversations are lively, inclusive and enlightening, occasionally charged or even contentious, but always thought-provoking.

Good Films. Do Good.
