The Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival returns for its 13th year of spotlighting the best independent animation from around the world, with a focus on artful, mature and boundary-pushing animation.

Some highlights from this year's festival:
• Opening gala screening of THE GIRL WITHOUT HANDS, winner of both the Jury Prize and Best French Film at the Annecy animation festival, featuring a live performance and animated projection from Calgary's Hermitess
• JUNK HEAD, a stop motion science-fiction film by independent animator Takahide Hori
• A two-part Satashi Kon retrospective, with 1997’s PERFECT BLUE and 2006’s PAPRIKA
• A spotlight on online animation collective LATE NIGHT WORK CLUB, showing both 2013’s GHOST STORIES and 2016’s STRANGERS
• Visiting artist SEAN BUCKELEW will introduce the LNWC pack as well as hosting a screening of his own work and an animation workshop
• Calgary artist BRANDON HEARTY will host a workshop on augmented reality animation, as well as showcasing his own work
