The 19th Calgary International Film Festival (Calgary Film) takes place from September 19 to 30, 2018.

The 19th Annual Calgary International Film Festival has 178 films in its full lineup, including all shorts, features, and collaboration screenings. This year the festival enjoyed a record-breaking 1912 paid submissions, compared with 1598 last year. 32 films have a first-time feature director. Approximately 30% of all booked features are Canadian (32 out of 103 total features). 56 films at the festival have a female director.

Opening Gala: THE SISTERS BROTHERS
Arts Commons: Wednesday September 19, 6:30pm
THE SISTERS BROTHERS: The West is wild, the Gold Rush is on, and a pair of notorious, deadly assassins – brothers Eli and Charlie Sisters (John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix) – have been sent to hunt down a prospector (Riz Ahmed), who has discovered a formula that reveals hidden gold. This year, regular Opening Gala tickets are just $25 and Green Room Experience tickets are $75. Reception starts at 6:30pm, film screening at 7:30pm.

MAKING COCO: THE GRANT FUHR STORYwill celebrate its World Premiere at our Closing Gala on Sept 29. Five Stanley Cup Rings. Seven-time All-Star. Hockey Hall of Fame inductee. From his humble Alberta roots to the peak of professional hockey, Grant Fuhr’s career is legendary.

Calgary Film is a 12-day showcase of up to 200 multi-genre feature and short films from Canada and over 40 other countries. The festival hosts gala events, screenings, special presentations, and a Behind the Screen series that emphasizes unique and exciting ways for filmmakers and fans to interact.

Calgary Film is now the largest film festival in Alberta, and is the sixth largest in Canada. It is also an Oscar-qualifying festival for short films and was recently named one of "50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, 2016" by MovieMaker Magazine.
